Aeyoung Kim: PIVOT

Aeyoung Kim fortæller, at hendes arbejde med keramikken begynder med at dele formerne med et lodret snit for at skabe fortællinger skåret ind i de fremkomne, nu synlige, snitflader på indersiden. 

Seriens titel, “Pivot”, afspejler forsøget på at bringe et overset rum i fokus. Den peger på, at bekymringer, angst og mørke ikke blot er negative størrelser, men nødvendige livsvilkår. De delte keramiske former spejler således hendes egen søgen efter balance i en ustabil verden. Ydersiden fremstår rolig, mens indersiden afslører spor af konflikt og eftertanke.

Gennem åbningen og ridse-teknikken konfronterer hun sin egen indre ustabilitet og bevæger sig – stykke for stykke – mod at genfinde ligevægt. Hendes håb er, at også beskueren kan finde en følelse af trøst og stille refleksion i værkerne.

Om Aeyoung Kim (Sydkorea)
Uddannet med hovedfag i keramik og glas fra Hongik University, Korea. Hun har siden modtaget flere priser, herunder guldprisen ved Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale (2010) samt en specialpris ved Cheongju International Craft Biennale. Hun har haft tre soloudstillinger og deltaget i en lang række gruppeudstillinger. Aeyoung Kims værker indgår i samlingerne på Seoul Museum of Craft Art, Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park og Korea Ceramic Foundation.

Årets Claytopia sommerudstilling er en gruppeudstilling med følgende deltagende kunstnere: Aeyoung Kim (Sydkorea), Anders Børgesen (Danmark), Andrés Anza (Mexico), Christian Glahn (Danmark), Kirsten Holm Hansen (Danmark), Peter Thomas Petersen (Danmark), Saeri Seo (Sydkorea / UK), Thiébaut Chagué  (Frankrig). Desuden bidrager de deltagende kunstnere i Guldagergaards Project Network og repræsentanter fra Kunstakademiets keramikværksted på Bornholm.

Exhibition text in English

Aeyoung Kim says that her work begins by vertically dividing ceramic forms and revealing the stories carved into their exposed sections. This approach grew from reexamining the idea of the “corner”—a space often seen as marginal, yet essential in defining the whole.

The series title, “Pivot,” reflects her attempt to bring this overlooked space to the center, suggesting that worries, anxiety, and darkness are not merely negative but necessary parts of life. The divided ceramics mirros her own search for balance in an unstable world. The outer surface appears calm, while the interior reveals honest traces of conflict and contemplation.

Through the act of splitting and inscribing these forms, she faces her inner instability and move toward restoring equilibrium, piece by piece. Her hope is that viewers, too, can find a sense of comfort and quiet reflection through these works.

About Aeyoung Kim (South Korea)
Majored in ceramics and glass at Hongik University in Korea. And has since then received multiple awards, including the Gold Prize at the 2010 Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale and a Special Prize at the Cheongju International Craft Biennale. She has presented three solo exhibitions and taken part in numerous group shows. Her work is held in the collections of the Seoul Museum of Craft Art, Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, and the Korea Ceramic Foundation.
